Availability
Availability is normally described in 9s and denotes the total amount of unplanned downtime allowed and should be defined in an SLA. A “4 nines” is 99.99% uptime, or about 53 mins of unplanned downtime. To find your unplanned downtime, use the formula:
(365 (days) * 24 (hours) * 60 (minutes)) - (365 (days) * 24 (hours) * 60 (minutes) * .9999 (uptime percentage)) = x (number of minutes of possible downtime)
